Cathy Freeman
The Gold Medalist
Growing Up
Cathy didn’t have the best start to life but she stayed strong and just kept pushing through life's challanges. Her life started off by being molested as a child and this made life really hard. With her mother’s encouragement she got a scholarship to a boarding school which was a big achievement as not many indigenous people got a chance to go. When she was 15 she competed as a sprinter at the National school championships. She tried out for the 1990 Common Wealth games team and got in as a 4 by 1000 metre relay runner. She won gold! Look at where she is now!
